As per a report:

Driving with children isn’t just slightly more dangerous; it’s a full 12 times more dangerous, according to the study. When researchers installed cameras in the cars of 12 families over a three-week period, they found talking on the phone only accounted for one percent of distractions. Distractions from children, meanwhile, accounted for 12 percent of all distractions. Over the course of an average 16-minute trip, parents that had kids present spent three minutes and 22 seconds with their eyes not on the road.

Little is known about the bachelor from Torquay, Devon, other than the warm affection he held for his pet, whose whereabouts is unknown but is believed to be still alive, The Times reports. Among the organisations and friends left money in Mr Richards's will was his cat Hotchpotch, for whom £10,000 was set aside to cover the costs of "upkeep and maintenance".

Now what would you say to this report that Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon has asked a man to Bring Midwife as Birth Proof. As per a report:

Madan Lal Jain has a task he is unlikely to ever fulfil: track down the midwife who assisted in his birth 64 years ago. Jain, a businessman in Gurgaon, needed a birth certificate, so he went to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon and asked for one.

And that was when he was told to get an affidavit signed by the midwife and two neighbours from 1949, the year he was born. The midwife was in her 40s when Jain was born, which would make at least 104 years old now. "When I went to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon office for my birth certificate, I was told records were preserved only from 1963.

The officials said I would have to get a hospital record or a signed affidavit from the midwife apart from the signatures of two people who were neighbours in 1949," said Jain, who was born at his home in Gopal Nagar in old Gurgaon. Jain does have a documented date of birth — his Punjab University marksheet — but says the officials told him it wasn't a valid paper to obtain a birth certificate.

Seven Elephants Killed After Train Ploughs into Herd

As per a report:

Seven elephants have died in India after a speeding train ploughed into a herd in West Bengal. The elephants were hit by a train near Nagrakata in the Jalpaiguri district. Of the dead, two were calves. Several other elephants in the herd of around 40 were injured by the train, which was travelling in excess of 40km/h.

The West Bengal Forest department said that over 10 elephants have been killed by trains in north Bengal, senior officials said. Authorities with the Forest Department want the speed limit reduced to 25km/h along the route where the elephants were killed. "The incident is a result of callousness on the part of the Railways. There is a clear restriction on speed, not exceeding 40 kmph. But we have reports that the Guwahati-bound Kabiguru Express was running at a higher speed," minister Hiten Barman told The Hindu.

"We have repeatedly urged the Railways not to use the 165-km-long track between Siliguri and Alipurduar. Instead, they should use an alternative route as elephant corridors run across the existing one." The incident took place 55km from Jalpaiguri town and the train involved was a passenger train heading to Dibrugarh in Assam, NDTV reports.

As per a report:

Two dozen commandos from Thailand are guarding nearly 300 kg gold in 13 boxes in Bihar's Bodhgaya town as work began to cover the dome of 1,500-year old Mahabodhi temple in glitter.

The much awaited work to gold-plate the dome is being carried out by a team of technical experts from Thailand, officials said. Two days after the 289 kg gold, donated by Buddhist devotees from Thailand, was brought at Bodhgaya in a special plane from Bangkok, technical experts have finally started the work under tight security in and around the temple, said N. Dorjee, secretary of the Bodh Gaya temple management committee.

"A 40-member team, including a dozen experts and two dozen commandos, from Thailand arrived at Bodhgaya with gold in 13 boxes to complete the work in 40 to 50 days," Singh said. He said the team is led by Thailand's former deputy prime minister General Pricha. "About 24 Thailand commandos are providing security to the gold boxes kept in the temple premises," Singh said.

Now what would you say this report that an Indian Girl Child was Married at 4 & Divorced at 8. As per a report:

Four years ago, a four-year-old girl named Fatima became a victim of child marriage in Nakhi village of Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh. Fatima's father Mangre, a poor labourer got her daughter married with a 14-year-old boy, Bakridi.

But, in a span of four years, the light of knowledge and education changed Mangre's old beliefs. After four years, when the groom's family, staying in nearby Tulsipur village, came at Mangre's home to take eight-year-old Fatima to her in-laws's place, then brave Mangre had the guts to say no to them. Mangre asked 18-year-old Bakridi's family to wait for ten years to take Fatima at their home. Because, according to law, a girl should be at least 18-year-old at the time of marriage.

But, Bakridi's family did not agree with Mangre's decision. So, he called a Kazi, who helped in granting divorce to them. Now, Mangre not only wants to educate his daughter but he has also pleged to stop other parents who get their minor girls married at tender age, when they do not even understand the meaning of marriage.

Superstitions and Beliefs of Space Scientists

Now what would you say this report of Superstitions and Beliefs of Space Scientists. As per a report:

Space scientists the world over may be working on advanced scientific fields. But they are not free of superstitions and beliefs, said an Indian space scientist.

While Indian space scientists pray to Lord Balaji at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh prior to every space mission for its success, their American counterparts eat peanuts.

"More interesting is the tradition of Russian cosmonauts who urinate on the right back wheel of their transfer bus on their way to the launch centre," a space scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) told IANS. "It is all individual beliefs.

One cannot take chance with God and poison," a former ISRO chief told IANS. According to a retired ISRO rocket scientist, a project director used to wear a new shirt on the day a rocket was launched. In line with the Indian tradition, pujas will be conducted before ISRO begins to integrate the various rocket stages, he added.

While Indian space scientists told IANS that the agency as a whole does not follow any superstitious acts, they are not able to explain the absence of the rocket named Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-13 (PSLV-C13).

After sending up the rocket PSLV-C12, ISRO jumped one number and called its next rocket, which launched Oceansat-2 and six European nano satellites, as PSVL-C14. Queried about PSLV-C13, a high-ranking ISRO official told IANS: "There is no such rocket designated with that number." He declined to say if ISRO considered 13 an unlucky number.

However, India's ambitious Rs.450 crore Mars Orbiter Mission in way was a tradition breaker as it flew on a Tuesday. "This was the first time in ISRO's history that a rocket was launched on a Tuesday. Tuesday is generally considered as inauspicious day," an ISRO official told IANS. But for a senior official involved in the Mars mission, Tuesday was a lucky day. "For me Tuesday is a lucky day," he told IANS, asking not to be identified by name.

The best time to drink a cup of coffee to get your daily hit of caffeine is between 9.30am and 11.30am, according to neuroscientists.

Scientists have worked out that the best time to get a daily hit of caffeine is on average between 9.30am and 11.30am. This is due to the way caffeine interacts with a key hormone – called cortisol – which helps to regulate the body’s own internal clock and promotes alertness.

Cortisol levels are naturally high shortly after waking up and can remain high for up to an hour afterwards – with the average peak being between 8am and 9am.

As per one report now police dogs too shall get pensions: As per the report:

Dogs work hard, sniffing out crime with only the occasional pat on the nose in gratitude. But police dogs deserve better, according to the police and crime commissioner in the English county of Nottinghamshire, who wants to reward them with "pensions" on retirement.

Paddy Tipping says the idea for a canine pension fund came about because officers were picking up the costs for retired police dogs. Handlers normally take dogs home upon retirement. Tipping, however, says he doesn't "think it's fair that they have to pay all the bills." The plans announced Monday will be rolled out next month. Up to 500 pounds ($800) annually will be given to handlers for three years to cover veterinary bills for work-related injuries or illness.

As per one report:

A 32-year-old man from Bangalore quit his job as he felt that his employers were paying him too much money. This guilt of being 'overpaid' led him to depression - a condition psychiatrists term schizoaffective psychosis or chaotic thought process.

His condition has thrown light on an issue that a handful of the workforce is grappling with. The man, who had eight years of experience, drew Rs 40,000 per month at the IT firm he worked at, even though experts say an individual with his experience should ideally draw Rs 60,000. However, when he would get his salary, the man would out of sheer guilt return the amount to his bosses. Dr Vinod Kulkarni, a senior consultant in neuropsychiatry, who treated the man, said stress triggers this condition in certain individuals.

A teenage girl was forced to dig her way out of a grave after being raped and buried alive in Pakistan. The 13-year-old was taken from her village while taking Koran lessons, then taken to an isolated area, sexually assaulted and buried because her captors assumed that the attack had killed her. However, she managed to climb out of the muddy tomb and flagged two pedestrians down.

The girl's father, Siddique Mughal, told authorities that his daughter had been kidnapped, but claims that they refused to do anything. After the girl was taken to receive medical attention, authorities were ordered to arrest the assailants by the Lahore High Court Chief Justice’s Complaint Cell immediately.

As per one report:

A man has claimed to have sent letters around the world for free after designing his own bizarre stamps that feature his own face in a variety of wacky disguises.

Angus McDonagh, a self-proclaimed ‘anarchist philatelist’, said he begun making his own stamps and even franking them amid what he saw as bland stamp design. ‘When I started I wanted them to be deliberately silly, so I had a fake moustache or beard or eye patch, that was very obviously drawn on very crudely,’ the 64-year-old said.

A cell phone is being praised by police for saving a Florida man's life after he was shot early Monday morning. A convenience store robber held up the Hess gas station in Winter Garden, Florida, at 4:30 a.m. and demanded that the clerk open the safe.

After the clerk subsequently tried and failed to open the safe, a second clerk walked into the store and was also unable to open it. As the suspect left, he fired his gun once directly at the clerk's stomach. However, amazingly the bullet was stopped by the clerk's cell phone, described Winter Garden police.

Britney Spears' music used to drive away Somali pirates

As per one report:

Britney Spears has sold close to 100 million albums worldwide, but it seems Britney Spears can't count Somali pirates among her many fans. In fact, her tunes are being used to turn the tide on high-seas crimes. Merchant naval officer Rachel Owens recently spoke to Metro and revealed that a "blast of Britney" is all it takes to send the pirates packing.

"Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most," Owens said. The "Toxic" singer can take heart though — it's nothing personal. "These guys can't stand western culture or music, making Britney's hits perfect," Owens explained. "It’s so effective the ship’s security rarely needs to resort to firing guns." There you have it: Britney Spears saves lives.

Well, she at least saves bullets. And as it turns out, Spears is in good company. "Oops!... I Did It Again" and "Baby One More Time" are far from the only songs used to drive criminal minds to the breaking point.

The Election Commission on Wednesday straightaway 'rejected' the bizarre demand of the opposition Congress to 'hide' lotus ponds, as they could draw voters towards the ruling- BJP in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.

According to reports, the EC has termed the Congress demand as impractical and unfeasible. The MP Chief Electoral Officer, Jaideep Govind said in a press conference that these lotuses had been standing in water bodies for a long time and as such "they do not have anything to do with the elections".Another senior official of EC said, "The Congress's reasoning that lotus ponds can swing the poll in favour of the BJP, which has 'lotus' as its poll symbol, is "ridiculous" and granting such a request would amount to undermining the intelligence of the voter."

When an Indian farmer got $1 cheque in Flood relief

Subscribe to My Viuz Subscribe to My Viuz in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to My Viuz in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to My Viuz in MY MSN! Subscribe to My Viuz in MY AOL! Subscribe to My Viuz in Rojo!
As per one report:

An Indian farmer who says his home and crops were badly damaged by severe floods this year has received government compensation of just 80 rupees ($1.31), a report said Wednesday. Sonba Ganpat Bawne, from the poverty-hit Vidarbha region in the western state of Maharashtra, said he had spent 14,000 rupees ($230) repairing his home after the flooding, according to the NDTV news network.

The 55-year-old said he received a cheque from the local government which was less than he had spent on refreshments for the official who surveyed the house to assess compensation a month ago. “This is a cruel joke on us. If the government is so hard up for money, we should collect some funds to help them out,” Bawne’s son Ruprao said.

But a district revenue officer, Ramesh Wandile, said the survey had shown only one percent damage, amounting to 83 rupees. “We gave a round figure of 80 rupees,” he told NDTV. The report said that, while a 20 billion rupee ($330 million) package was set aside for those hit by July’s floods in the area, many farmers complained of receiving little or no help from the state.

Family lived with dead relative in their house for ten months because they thought it would keep ghosts away

Now what would you say this report that an Indian family lived with dead relative in their house for ten months because they thought it would keep ghosts away. As per a report:

A superstitious family kept the body of a dead relative in their house for ten months to keep spirits out. Three members of the same family were found living with the highly-decomposed body of a female relative in their house in Nagercoil, India. After a neighbour complained about the foul smell from the house in Ramavarma Puram, police found the body of 56-year-old Umadevi covered with a bedspread in one of the rooms. She had died on December 3, 2012.

The son of the deceased, her mother and her brother, were admitted to a government hospital as it was suspected they may have an infection and psychological disorder, Hindustan Times reports. Police said Umadevi's mother Sarojini, her son Sivaraman and her brother Sellampillai had always kept their house locked and did not speak to neighbours.

They had been living on the family pension of Sarojini's husband Subramaniam Pillai. As Sarojini did not appear for a renewal of life certificate, they did not get the pension in recent months. Police originally suspected the body had been kept in the house because they couldn't afford to pay for a cremation but then officers suspected they may be unwell.

Now what you have to say on it....pl. comment.
